Profiles in Caring

The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Oregon & SW Washington Chapter

The ability to freely and voluntarily form organizations to meet needs and advocate causes is a cornerstone of human freedom. But in order for such groups to carry out their important work — from achieving humanitarian and educational goals to advancing science and the arts — they need financial support.
Since 1960, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and its 30,000 members in 197 chapters across the globe have worked hard to provide that support. AFP strives to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs. By fostering the growth and development of fundraising professionals, promoting the highest ethical standards for the fundraising profession, and working to preserve and enhance philanthropy and volunteerism, AFP and its members ensure that deserving organizations can get the help they need to continue their good work.
In our own region, the AFP’s Oregon and

Southwest Washington chapter has been helping local non-profit organizations access national fundraising and philanthropy resources since 1984. By connecting those in need to those with the ability to give, AFP of Oregon and Southwest Washington has made it possible for those organizations to continue the work that makes our area a better place for everyone to live.
At this time each year, the local chapter also honors individuals and organizations in our state that are making the world a better place through philanthropy. The recipients of the 22nd annual Philanthropy Awards have given of themselves to create opportunities for others where none may have otherwise existed. Their contributions have allowed education and the arts to flourish and brought hope to the less fortunate across our state and the world. The efforts of this year’s recipients have touched many lives. May their stories touch your heart.
